Minoo Yalsohrabi

Overview

b. 1992 Tabriz,  Iran

Minoo Yalsohrabi holds a Master's degree in Painting and a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Tehran University of Art. Currently residing in Tabriz, Iran, Minoo's artistic journey unfolds as a captivating exploration of the relationships between food and objects within the context of meal preparation and the kitchen, obsessively yet playfully studying motion, cause and effect, bodies, human intervention, and light.

In her works Paintings for the Kitchen and Unnumbered Pages from a Lost Recipe Book, Minoo Yalsohrabi delves into the configurations and relationships between food and objects, again within the context of meal preparation. She examines motion, cause and effect, bodies, human intervention, and light in both obsessive and playful ways.

Her drawings and paintings establish a relationship that plays with the concepts of agency and materiality, with Unnumbered Pages from a Lost Recipe Book serving as a reference to the culinary arts and practices that Paintings for the Kitchen seems to adhere to. The drawings function like illustrated instruction manuals, as though torn from a larger collection of pages, with their technique and material choices reinforcing this idea.
